Demon Trousers

These trousers include two representations of demons coming from very different periods of art. The two demons on the left leg are inspired by the 19th century black and white prints of English artist Aubrey Beardsley. Beardsley was an illustrator who strictly painted in black ink and was highly influenced by Japanese woodcuts. The introduction of Japonisme into his Art Nouveau style created a way to illustrate which was never seen before. The demon on the right leg is inspired by Ed Hardy’s early tattoo work after returning to the US from his training in Japan done by Irezumi masters. The combination of the two demons reflect the immense influence that Japanese art had and continues to have in the art world.
